Working with Video

Embedding a clip from YouTube & other video sharing sites

Video clips hosted on most Video Sharing services (YouTube, Vimeo, DailyMotion, etc.) can easily be embedded into a WordPress post or page.

  1. Copy the URL of the video
RIght-click to copy web address of video from YouTube

Highlight & right-click to copy web address of video from YouTube

  2. Paste it into the Edit window of a post or page.  WordPress takes care of the rest!
Paste URL of YouTube video into editor window of post or page

Paste URL of YouTube video into editor window of post or page

Uploading Video to WordPress

It is possible to upload videos directly to your WordPress Media Library, and then to embed them into pages or posts.  Supported file types include .mov (QuickTime), .avi & .wmv (Windows Media).

The disadvantage of this approach is WordPress doesn’t help you as it does with 3rd-party hosted videos. You have be able to configure an html embed tag on your own!

Please also consider our need to allot storage space to multiple WordPress sites.  By default, each Teacher Site has a total quota of 200 MB for all media files.  A handful of videos could easily fill your storage quota.  We therefore urge you to upload videos only when other options (YouTube) are not appropriate for your needs.  Contact us if you have a project that warrants changes to these shared settings.
